When I first started this blog in June 2008, I wrote something of a mission statement detailing why I thought it was important for me to open a blog focused on literature and culture as well as create a platform for advocating for the values of academia in the humanities. I have also sought to document the joys and travails of being an English major in hopes of inspiring others to “follow their bliss” despite all the naysayers.
As my interests have grown and deepened so have the topics that this blog seeks to address. Nevertheless, at the root of it all is a love of literature and a desire to share the beauty of language with the world.
***Perhaps even more fundamental than my love of all things literary is my belief that we must chase our passions and not follow our wallets. As Howard Thurman puts it, “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” If you blog about your own nerdy passions (be it literature or otherwise), please send me a link and I’d be happy to link up with your blog!***
